The miracle of aceh survived the 2004 tsunami

The 2004 tsunami left very deep wounds for the people of Aceh. Over 200 thousand people died from the earthquake which reached 9.3 SR and then followed by tsunami with wave height up to 30 meters.

Surely there is horror in the heart while recalling the great events that. I did not feel the tsunami at that time, because I live in South Aceh, but when I saw the news on television because of the tsunami, my appetite suddenly disappeared.

I'm only 12 years old, I do not understand the cause of the tsunami that started with a great earthquake. There was news that my neighboring district of Aceh Barat was devastated by the tsunami.

Distance Aceh Barat with South Aceh is only 198,8 km with distance about 4 hour journey land. Come to think of the distance is quite close, when compared with the strength of the tsunami that reached the areas of Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand, of course, South Aceh also swept away by the tsunami waves.

Moreover, South Aceh is indeed a coastal area and very close to the sea, but alhamdulillah my area was saved from that awful wave.
It was rumored in the society at that time that there was an eyewitness who saw the human figure in a white, large, and high robes, in the location of Mr. Tapa's staff. He raised his hands to pray shortly after the earthquake, so that South Aceh was saved from the tsunami waves.

Communities in South Aceh believe that the figure is Mr. Tapa and others believe that it is a cleric, because South Aceh is known as a sacred area and many great scholars are living here.

Apart from that, the scientific facts must be proved because as a Muslim society we should not entirely believe in that mysticism. Moreover, until takabur that South Aceh will not be affected by the tsunami, because there are Tuan Tapa and clerics who protect it. Nauzubillahiminzalik if this thinking continues to be believed.

This is a Scientific Fact

I have long since begun to question this, about why Aceh Selatan was not hit by the 2004 Aceh tsunami until I met Dr. Eng. Hamzah Latief. He is a lecturer of the Oceanography, Geophysics and Meteorology ITB study program who knows a lot about tsunamis and earthquakes.

I asked about the reasons why in South Aceh, especially Tapaktuan not happen tsunami 2004 Aceh, even though the city is close to the sea.
When I asked the two tsunami experts whether the possibility of Aceh Selatan potentially affected by the tsunami? Of course the two people answer, because if the earthquake source is elsewhere, South Aceh can also be hit by the tsunami especially if this area is very close to the beach.

Hearing their explanations enlightened me that it was not because my sacred city escaped the great catastrophe of this century, but because of its earthquake position that was not face to face with the epicenter.

Because this tsunami is a cycle, there is the possibility that one day the tsunami could devastate the coast in the south of Aceh. This is also justified by Dr. Hamzah Lathief in the year 1863 wilyah Aceh Selatan has a history of tsunami.

If viewed city governance in South Aceh, the government especially Tapaktuan area which is the capital of South Aceh, continue to expand the city by way of coastal reclamation.
Of course, after reclamation will be many people who occupy this area and serve as a center of activity in the City Tapktuan. Can you imagine how later if tusnami hit this city, of course will be many casualties that fall.
The local government should know about disaster risk before coastal reclamation, because this can be a big threat for us in the future.

May the government of South Aceh open its eyes to what it has done, because if the relakmasi beach continue to do mean we are just waiting for disaster.
